Moving Business Stock, Equipment and Furniture: What You Need to Know

Moving business stock, furniture and office in the UK

Business moves aren’t like house moves.

The items are often heavier, sometimes more valuable, occasionally awkward in ways that need a bit of thought before anyone picks anything up. The timelines are tighter. And the cost of something going wrong is higher. It’s not just a damaged box. It’s a day your business can’t operate.

Here’s what to think about before you book.

What Are You Actually Moving?

Office furniture is the most straightforward. Desks, chairs, filing cabinets, shelving, sofas, whiteboards, monitors on arms. All standard for a man with a van team. Flat-pack is easy. Assembled furniture with tricky staircases takes more care, but it’s well within what we handle every day.

Business stock and retail inventory depends on what it is. Boxed stock in standard packaging moves the same way as any other boxes. Hanging stock, fragile display items, or bulk pallets are a different conversation. Tell us exactly what you have and we’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right call.

Trade and workshop equipment varies a lot. Most benchtop tools, machinery under a few hundred kilograms, racking systems, shelving, catering equipment. All manageable. Very heavy plant, specialist machinery or anything requiring crane lifts is outside our scope.

IT and tech equipment should be packed properly before we arrive. Monitors in original boxes or well-padded alternatives. Servers and networking equipment packed securely, ideally by your IT team. Cables labelled so you’re not untangling everything at the other end.

How Far Is It Going?

Most business collections and deliveries we do are local or regional. A branch to branch transfer. A supplier collection. An eBay purchase going from a trade seller to your workshop.

We also do longer runs. If you’re relocating a whole office across the country or moving stock between depots, that’s a job we can quote for.

The distance affects the price, obviously. But it also affects the logistics: whether we need an overnight stop, whether we need multiple vehicles, whether the timing needs to work around traffic at the destination. Be upfront about the full journey. We’ll be upfront about what’s involved.

Access Matters More Than Most People Expect

Narrow staircases. Low ceiling heights. No lift. Parking restrictions. Loading bay windows. Restricted access hours in managed buildings. Gates that need a code. Gravel driveways that a fully loaded van will sink into slightly.

None of these are problems we can’t work with. All of them are things we need to know about before we arrive.

The single biggest cause of a business move running over time or costing more than quoted is access surprises. Take five minutes before you book to think about the access at both ends of the job and tell us what you find.

Timing and Downtime

For most business stock and equipment moves, timing matters more than it does for a house move.

If we’re collecting your display stock on a Wednesday to set up in the new premises for a Thursday opening, there’s no margin for error. If your office furniture needs to be in place before your team arrives at 8am, that needs to be planned specifically.

Be honest about your timeline. If you need something done out of hours, at a weekend, or to a hard deadline, say so from the start. We’d rather know early than find out on the morning.

Insurance

Our teams handle your items with care. Things very rarely go wrong.

But for high-value business equipment, it’s worth checking what your own business insurance covers during a move. Some commercial policies include transit cover. Some don’t. It’s worth a two-minute call to your insurer before moving anything valuable.

What Happens on the Day

We turn up when we said we would. We do a quick walkthrough of what’s being moved before we start lifting anything. We agree on what’s going, what’s not, and anything that needs extra care.

We load carefully. We drive carefully. We deliver carefully. We put things where you want them, not just wherever is closest to the van.

If there’s anything you’re not happy with, you tell us before we leave. Not after.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to across every branch in the network.
