Clothes can stay

The key word there is clothes. Light, soft items that won’t shift around or add serious weight are no problem. It’s when people start leaving other things in drawers that it gets more complicated.
Heavy items need to come out
Books, tools, belts with heavy buckles, batteries, gym kit, anything dense. A drawer full of paperbacks feels manageable when you’re pulling it open at home. It feels very different when someone is carrying a chest of drawers down a flight of stairs and the weight distribution shifts unexpectedly.
Removing heavy items protects your furniture as much as anything else. Drawers aren’t designed to bear that kind of load while the chest is being lifted and manoeuvred. Take the heavy things out, pack them in boxes, and let the furniture travel light.
Fragile and valuable items should always come out

Before moving day, go through every drawer in the house and ask: is this heavy, fragile, or valuable? If yes, take it out and pack it properly. If it’s just clothes or lightweight bits and pieces, leave it and save yourself the work.
